Pool Maintenance After a Florida Storm
A heavy storm can throw your pool off in a single afternoon. Here are the steps to get it back in shape, or you can let us handle it for you.
The best way to do cleanup and maintenance after a storm is as follows:
Clear the debris. Skim out leaves, branches, and anything floating before it sinks and stains. Empty the skimmer and pump baskets.
Check the water level. If your pool overflowed, drain it back down to the middle of the skimmer opening so the pump can run properly.
Brush the walls and floor. This helps loosen anything the storm runoff brought in and keeps it from settling into the surface.
Run the pump. Once power is back, let the pump and filter circulate for several hours to clear the water and mix in any chemicals you add.
Test the water. Storms dilute your chemistry. Test for chlorine, pH, and alkalinity, then adjust. Heavy rain often calls for a shock treatment.
Watch for algae. Florida heat plus low chlorine after a storm can turn your water green within a few days, so stay on top of it.
